Kindle is a unique program that allows you to explore birth photography as a profession.  Not only do we discuss the roles of professional birth photographers, but we give you a start in camera basics and composition.  You will get to play with professional grade equipment and learn the differences between that and consumer cameras.  This class will not make you a birth photographer!  However, it will help you get a better idea of whether it is the right path for you before you invest in high end equipment and more in-depth training through workshops and mentoring.  We hope you join us!

Tickets available at the door for $99 if you have to come on the fly!

Program Schedule

Roles in Birth (25 mins)

We will discuss the various roles of birth professionals including doulas, midwives, OB’s, and birth photographers, carefully defining the tasks each one takes on.

Birth Photography as a Profession (20 mins)

We will talk about what makes a birth photographer a professional.  We will discuss the need for proper training, support organizations, equipment, insurance, and all the other nitty gritty that comes with the job!

Understanding Camera Basics (60 mins)

We will cover the basics functions of a camera and how a photograph is created.  It will include shutter speed, aperture, ISO, flash, and digital storage.

Equipment Breakdown (60 mins)

Want to know the difference that different equipment makes?  This is your chance to see how professional gear makes birth photography possible.  You can test out the difference in lenses, camera bodies, flash, and even memory cards.

Composition & The Photograph (45 mins)

We will talk about the basics of composition and how it can turn a snapshot into a photograph.  We will show you some examples of the differences and how to start applying the rules of composition to your photographs.
